Citation: This is song in the genre of electropop/eclectra-rock, released by Capitol Records.
Annotation: This is a 2008 billboard top ten single. The first single released June 17, 2008 by singer-songwriter Katy Perry. The song became popular in the club/party scene of the same year. Young women imitated the song by kissing one another while out in public. The lyrics of the song are as follows; "
The reflection of gender in music is also a reflection of how we see gender within our society. In some aspects we might think it it hard being a woman in our culture with stereotypes about age, hair color, and even race. Some songs in popular music have shown the differences thought about women in certain eras and time frames. With songs like Cyndi Lauper's "Girls just wanna have fun" in the eighties, No Doubts' "I'm just a girl" in the early nineties, and Madonna's "What it feels like for a girl." These songs, to me, have strong a feminist anthem about them. They spoke to young girls saying you don't have to feel strange for being a female.

This was never the way I planned Not my intention I got so brave, drink in hand Lost my discretion
It’s not what I’m used to Just wanna try you on I’m curious for you Caught my attention
(Chorus) I kissed a girl and I liked it The taste of her cherry chapstick I kissed a girl just to try it I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it It felt so wrong It felt so right Don’t mean I’m in love tonight I kissed a girl and I liked it I liked it
No I don’t even know your name It doesn’t matter You’re my experimental game Just human nature
It’s not what Good girls do Not how they should behave My head gets So confused Hard to obey
Us girls we are so magical Soft skin, red lips, so kissable Hard to resist so touchable Too good to deny it Ain’t no big deal, it’s innocent
Written by Katy. Perry, Lukasz Gottwald, Max Martin and Cathy Dennis
