Caption: This is an image for the song Redneck Woman by Gretchen Wilson.
Annotation: Wilson takes the roles of traditional femininity and turns them upon their heads. The song portrays a woman that quickly severs herself from prima donnas. Gretchen uses clothing, beer, music, and the "art" of hell-raising as cultural identifiers and what it means to be a "Redneck Woman."
In the video and press shots, Wilson maintains a feminine look, yet borrows from the opposite sex for remnants of fashion. In ripped jeans and a camo shirt Wilson clearly uses male gendered clothing. Wearing big bangle earrings and a pony-tail through her trucker's cap separates her from the beaus she chooses for company.
The image depicts wood grain paneling and mailbox lettering; common elements found in trailer park living. Wilson sings with pride about living in the poor and lower middle class. Stereotypically those in poverty are accustomed to living in mobile homes or trailers. Gretchen Wilson embraces this fact and those stereotypes.
